Description

Ground Beef and Potato Casserole is a classic comfort food that layers tender potatoes, flavorful ground beef, and a creamy cheese sauce. This hearty dish is perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or any occasion requiring a warm, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion and minced garlic until browned. Season with salt and pepper. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened. Stir in half the shredded cheddar cheese, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  4. Assemble the Casserole:
Layer half the potato slices evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top with half the cooked ground beef, followed by half the cheese sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Add the Cheese Topping:
Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.
  6. Bake:
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Cool and Serve:
Allow the casserole to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
